Lou Priolo pulls no punches as he uses God’s Word to exhort, encourage, and energize husbands. Husbands, beware: Our standard is Christ himself! Priolo does a superb job of presenting the true calling of every husband to exemplify Christ in our marriages. It is composed of simple, easy-to-read chapters, with practical and digestible truth fully rooted in the Word.
By God’s grace, Priolo escapes a common pitfall of Christian books: condemnation. Having read several books on being a biblical husband, I picked up Priolo’s book expecting more of the same. What I found was a refreshing, hard-hitting (see: convicting) look at God’s calling for me as a husband. Though every chapter left me feeling like I had a lot of room to grow, Priolo’s words remained kind, understanding, and inspiring above all else.
Each chapter also remained firmly rooted in Scripture, often sending me on long, profitable rabbit trails studying the Scripture he presents. Priolo also maintains a personable voice, like a father encouraging me with the gospel.
The Complete Husband is also an exceedingly practical volume. While the Word is front and center throughout, Priolo gives practical advice, guidance, and encouragement that a man can apply the moment after reading. He charges the reader to ask his wife direct questions, such as: “If you could change three things about me that would make me more Christ-like, what would you change?” With many such questions throughout the book, any husband brave enough to fully pursue God’s design for husbands will enjoy many profitable hours of conversation with his wife.
Husbands willing to read and apply these timeless Scriptural truths and practical advice will surely experience the transforming power of God’s grace as they grow in love and intimacy with their wives.
